While Gentry isn’t what you’d consider a traditional September call-up, the likelihood of the A’s waiting until September to do so is fairly likely. With Sam Fuld out of options, the A’s hands are a little tied.

With the Athletics this season, Gentry has been a big addition to the lineup. While he is only hitting .264, his On-Base Percentage stands at .326. Couple that with his 18 steals, and his 95% successful steal rate, and the addition of Gentry could help jumpstart an Athletics’ offense that has been a little stagnant recently.

Gentry, who has been out of the Oakland lineup since July 27, just started a rehab assignment with the River Cats on Monday. Getting a couple of weeks to get his timing back could be crucial. Yes, the Athletics could use his talents right now, but unless they want to send another player down (Stephen Vogt, Nate Freiman?) then they will most likely have to wait before the speedy Gentry returns.

One big factor that could push the Oakland brass to make a move before September would be that Gentry has owned the Angels this season. He is batting .407 with a .448 OBP and 4 steals in 27 at-bats.

If the A’s do activate Gentry before the month turns, expect the player sent down to be called right back up, unless it’s Sam Fuld.
