No one was spectacular in the infield for the Oakland Athletics, so this award must go to the most consistent player, which would be Eric Sogard. Sogard has been with Oakland since 2010 and had a great season per his usual standards. His hitting was very timely and he collected a total of 37 RBI this year, which is the most in one season throughout his MLB career. All in all, he batted a respectable .247 with a .598 OPS.

Additionally, Sogard’s defensive abilities have always been his strongest asset and those did not waiver this year. He even showed his versatility by playing at third base for one game. He maintained a high fielding percentage at both second base and shortstop, and did make some replay worthy dives and catches in the middle infield. Compared to the rest of the infield, his glove is definitely gold. It was key to have Sogard and his sharp defensive skills in the mix among the rest of the infielders, who committed the majority of the 126 errors over the course of the season.

Many are speculating that Sogard will be on the chopping block this offseason. However, this seems to be assumed almost every offseason. The fact that Sogard has survived so many rebuilds throughout his time with Oakland just proves that the Athletics seem something special in him and value his consistency. Coaches and fans know what Sogard is going to provide the team and he has been lovingly accepted by all despite his lack of offensive power.
