It appears that the stronger team this year ought to be the team that was one game from making the playoffs last year.

The Angels have a stronger rotation in general, aside from Sonny Gray, and they also happen to have a knockout punch of Albert Pujols and Mike Trout side-by-side in the batting order.

But the Athletics may have more depth in the bullpen, because up-and-comers like Ryan Dull and Henderson Alvarez, who should find playing time with the A’s this year, may have more promise than Angels’ pitchers Jered Weaver, C.J. Wilson, and Tyler Skaggs, all whom are out indefinitely with injury. As far as this game of position-by-position goes, the Angels squeak by the A’s, 8-7.
