A’s Chavez will start Opening Day

It looks like Eric Chavez might finally be healthy. As a result of a relatively quiet spring, Chavez will start on Opening Day when the A’s face the Mariners in Oakland. As a big Eric Chavez fan, I’m ecstatic to see Chavvy enter the season in relatively full health. More importantly for the A’s, a healthy Eric Chavez means they would have a strong power presence in their offense. While Chavez isn’t expected to be an everyday player, his presence on and off the field should do wonders for the A’s relatively young team.

The news of Chavez’s starting role on Opening Day comes despite 1B Daric Barton’s strong spring campaign. For the spring, Barton hit .302/.516/.512 compared to Chavez’s .195/.233/.390. But as most of you know, it’s just spring training—and it’s important not to invest too much in spring numbers.

PS—I’m sorry for the short post today, it’s just that I’ve been extremely busy today. Earlier I hosted a MLB 2K10 Tournament at my house with a couple of my friends. I also hosted a poker game as well. The good news is that I made it to the finals in the tournament! Hopefully I’ll have a couple posts up tomorrow.
