Surging A’s Look For Sweep

At 9-4, the Oakland Athletics are off to their best start in recent years and fans should be excited about this young and talent group of players. Today, the A’s will look for the sweep against the reeling Baltimore Orioles (1-11). The Athletics who have scored 59 runs have been surprisingly good through the season’s first two weeks. It is still very early, but the A’s are complete opposites of the Orioles at this point. The two teams are heading in the opposite directions, and the A’s could continue heading upwards with a sweep of the Orioles today.

The A’s are currently hitting .249/.321/.365 as a team. While none of those numbers are particularly good, the A’s are getting hits when they need to. The listless offense is not expected to do much damage against some of the better teams in the league, but their pitching figures to keep games within reasonable reach. The A’s will get Monday off, their first off-day of the season, and will resume on Tuesday with a series against the visiting New York Yankees.

The A’s pitching will face its first real challenge of the season against the high-powered Yankees’ offense. As of today, the A’s starting pitchers have yet to lose a game, and should be able to contain the Yankees’ offense for the most part. It’s the A’s offense that will be the deciding factor in the Yankees series. Last year, the A’s did not do too well against New York, but will look to start a new trend against them on Tuesday.

But for today, the A’s hope Brett Anderson, who just signed a four-year deal with the A’s, will continue the A’s recent success against the Orioles. Anderson has yet to allow a run in his first 12 innings of the season and will look for his second win of the season.
