According to the SF Chronicle, there is a chance that OF Coco Crisp, who signed a one-year deal with Oakland, will start tonight in the opening game of the series against the Giants. Crisp, who was scheduled to make a Triple-A appearance tonight, is said to be taking batting practice in Oakland! Here’s the official scoop
Other NOTES:
Earlier today Chad Gaudin was released by the A’s. Gaudin had the fourth highest ERA in the AL, and had struggled in his last three outings. Gaudin’s second-stint with Oakland was obviously not what we all expected.
Barry Zito, ex-A’s ace, is scheduled to start tonight in the coliseum. Zito has not pitched particularly well against his former team, and ex-teammate, Eric Chavez is hitting .571 (4-for-7) against the southpaw. However, Zito who has won six games so far, seems more focused this season and is certainly looking like an ace.
The A’s are currently 9th in average (.252), 9th in OBP (.316), 12th in SLG (.363). The A’s have just 25 homers this season. Meanwhile on the pitching side of things, Oakland ranks 8th in ERA (4.18) after starting most of the year strong. The A’s staff has tallied a total of 23 Quality Starts (5th in AL)—Trevor Cahill will try to make it 24 after tonight.
