A’s Carter Looking To Finish Year Strong

the A’s called-up top-hitting prospect, Chris Carter, earlier last month, they hoped that Carter would inject some new life into an offense that ranked near the bottom in all major offensive categories. The hopes never came to fruition, or at least not immediately they didn’t.

After an 0-for-33 start to his young career, Carter has finally begun to resemble the guy who led Triple-A Sacramento in homers (31) and RBIs (94). In his last ten games, Carter is hitting .267 with three homers and 6 RBIs. In fact, two of those home runs have come in the past three days. Carter blasted a homer in game one of the season series against the Mariners, and in tonight’s 5-3 win over Seattle.

The A’s meanwhile, have regained sole possession of second-place in the American League and are currently one-game under .500. If the A’s can pull off another win to sweep the Mariners, they would finish the season with a .500 record. Bob Geren, who took over the reigns of the team back in 2007, has yet to lead the team to a winning record.

Young guys like Carter, who figure to be key players in Oakland’s immediate future, are the reasons why fans should be excited about this team’s chances next season. The fact that Carter continues to find comfort in the batter’s box without being deterred by his o-for-33 start is to me, an indication that this young team has a lot of confidence in their abilities. Adding a bat or two behind Carter’s could be all what Oakland needs heading into next season. And with a strong young pitching staff intact to return next season, the A’s should be a team to watch out for next season.
