Ex-A’s Pitcher Duchscherer Finds Work In Baltimore

The A’s saw one of their former players sign elsewhere this weekend, as pitcher Justin Duchscherer signed a one-year major league contract this weekend with the Baltimore Orioles.

According to ESPN.com, the Orioles have given Duchscherer a guaranteed $700,000 with another $400,000 coming his way if he manages to make the 25-man roster. The deal according to ESPN’s report, however, could reach up to $4.5 million due to the fact that it’s filled with incentives.

Duchscherer, 33, went 2-1 with a 2.89 ERA in five starts last season with Oakland.

He battled with a hip-injury last season, but the Orioles are apparently optimistic that the “Duke” will return to the form that helped make him a two-time AL All-Star.

In his career, Duchscherer holds a 33-25 record, along with a 3.13 ERA in 454.2 innings. The A’s used him as a reliever/starter during his time in Oakland. He has had his share of injuries, and it’s yet to be seen if Duchscherer’s body can hold up for an entire season as a starter. He’ll enter Orioles camp with the intention of making the rotation.

Regardless, it’s nice to see that Duchscherer found some work this year, and hopefully he pitches well for the Orioles.
