Report: 3B Kouzmanoff Optioned To Triple-A

As reported by Jeff Seidel of MLB.com, the Oakland Athletics have optioned 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff to Triple-A Sacramento as a result of the veteran’s poor offensive production this season. The 29-year old Kouzmanoff has been struggling both offensively and defensively this season, as his .221 average and 9 errors don’t warrant him the position or playing time as Oakland’s starting third-baseman.

In what has been a highly disappointing season for the Athletics, Kouzmanoff is just one of many Oakland players struggling to produce offensively this season. The A’s haven’t seen much production from the hot-corner over the years, and the team obviously hopes that Kouzmanoff can straighten himself out in Sacramento.

Oakland did, however, activate injured utility player Adam Rosales, who appeared in 80 games last season while hitting .271 with 7 HR and 31 RBIs. The A’s hope to see a healthy and productive Rosales return to an anemic Oakland lineup. The A’s could sure use Rosales’ high intensity in the lineup, as the A’s have been rather inconsistent this season scoring runs.

Recently acquired Scott Sizemore was recalled from Sacramento as well on Monday. He and Rosales will give Oakland’s infield some much needed depth and relief. In 9 games this season for the River Cats, Sizemore hit .267. The A’s are hoping that the ex-Tiger can provide some much needed production on offense.

The A’s also sent down pitcher Fautino De Los Santos to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday.
