A’s Video Of The Week: Bailey Closes Up Shop

There are rumors flying around baseball that seem to suggest that A’s closer Andrew Bailey is being pursued by the Cincinnati Reds. The A’s are reportedly willing to listen to offers for many, if not all, of their players and dealing Bailey to a team like the Reds isn’t totally far-fetched.

Cincinnati might lose reliever Francisco Cordero this year to free agency, and the Reds might be seeking for additional help for the back end of their bullpen. Bailey, who at just 27 years of age, could be a player worth pursuing for a team like the Reds. In addition to the Reds, the Mariners are rumored to be interested in Bailey as well.

It’s believed that the A’s will move Bailey at some point this offseason, and the team is also listening to offers to starter Gio Gonzalez. Gonzalez, Oakland’s 2011 All-Star representative, is a young lefty who has established himself as an up and coming ace in the league. Over the last two seasons, Gonzalez has won 31 games.

But back to Bailey. While teams will likely have to offer a boat load of young talent to pry Gonzalez from Oakland, Bailey’s price tag will likely be much cheaper. His stock value is high, but he won’t cost nearly as much as Gonzalez would. In his career, Bailey has recorded 75 saves and has compiled a 2.07 ERA.

So, with that in mind, I thought I’d share a video of Bailey in a 2011 Oakland A’s commercial with all of you lovely A’s fans. The commercial, appropriately titled “Closer,” shows Bailey, well, closing things down. It’s important to cherish these moments while we still can, A’s fans, as Bailey could be wearing new colors next year.
