Baseball Is Right Around the Corner
By Sean Davis

As we prepare to say a final goodbye to 2012 and venture into 2013, it seemed appropriate to point out just how close we really are to having our favorite game back for the summer. January means it is almost time for Fan Fest, which will take place on the 27th at Oracle Arena next door to the O.co Coliseum. If you have never been to a Fan Fest I highly recommend it. It is the perfect way to slowly start to welcome baseball back into our daily lives, and it is always a great opportunity to get a special meet and greet with your old favorites, and get a look at the new arrivals. Oracle Arena might be a little cramped for an event like this, but it really doesn’t matter as long we get to meet our boys in green-and-gold.
Only a couple short weeks after Fan Fest we will start getting our first glimpses of the 2013 Athletics as they begin to report for Spring Training in Phoenix. Then by February 23rd the A’s will be playing their first Cactus League game, the earliest date since they came to Oakland. This is of course due to the World Baseball Classic, which will be played during the month of March and pushes up the entire Spring Training schedule for MLB.
Now that we’ve gotten through the holidays just about, it’s really time to start focusing again on baseball. The NFL playoffs will certainly occupy a large portion of our sporting minds over the next month, and by then we’ll be in full baseball mode. For us Athletics fans it seems likely that we’ll have a whole lot to look forward to in 2013, so baseball season cannot come soon enough. Nothing will make me happier than falling back into my winning or losing streak superstitions as I do every summer.
Happy New Year everyone, from all of us at Swingin’ A’s!
