Have the A’s reclaimed Top Dog Status in the Bay Area?

The Bay Area has been the home to some of the most passionate fans in the Sports World for decades. Fans in the Bay have been blessed to watch up and close some of the best teams and players in the history of Sports, but there always has been a battle brewing between the organizations and the fan bases that support the various teams that call the Bay Area home. The Bay Area is one of the few regions to have multiple Pro Football and Baseball Teams. This fact has led to constant battles and discussions on whose team deserves top-billing in the area. This topic has been widely debated among the Fan bases of both the A’s and the Giants for years.

Ask any A’s fan to compare the media attention the A’s have gotten over the last 3-4 years with that of the Giants and you are sure to get a response filled with disgust and displeasure. Sure A’s fan realize when you win 2 of the last 3 World Series there is going to be a big surge in media attention. Combine that with the fact that before last years uprising, the A’s were best known as a team that traded away all of their young stars, and you can see how the large gap was created. However a true Bay Area native realizes these things run in cycles that are never predictable.

This baseball season could be the beginning of another cycle. The A’s have a comfortable lead on top of the AL West, and the 2nd best record in the majors. While the Giants at the moment are numerous games under .500 and in last place in the NL West. A long and successful Post Season run by the A’s could be the springboard they need to Proclaim “Top Dog” status in the Bay Area. A’s Nation surely would have a lot of new members clambering to join the party, just look at all the “Brand New” Giant hats and jersey’s that suddenly appeared after their 2010 & 2012 postseason runs. The question is will the longtime A’s fans accept all the newcomers, or will they kick them to the curb and Rage on!.

So with the divisional races heating up and the post-season looming around the corner the A’s may have more on the line than just a chance at a World Series title, they have a chance at making Green and Gold the predominant color of choice for Bay Area Baseball fans.
