A’s 2014 Season Breakdown And Highlights

The A’s have had back-to-back seasons that consisted of exciting Septembers. From winning the AL West championship on the last day of the season against the Texas Rangers in 2012 to dominating a tough part of the schedule on their way to their second straight AL West title in 2013. The A’s 2014 regular season schedule has been announced and as with every season it comes with some ups and downs. From a prolonged road trip to a murders row end of the season 2014 will be an exciting one. Here are some highlights from each month to keep an eye out for.

The first thing to lookout for in March/April is opening day (obviously). The Cleveland Indians will be the first team to step to the plate against the A’s in 2014 and it should be an exciting series. The next thing to look for is April will have the A’s play every team in the AL West. This is one of only two months in which this will happen and even though the season will just be beginning it will be a huge jumpstart for one AL West team.

May sees the Washington Nationals coming to the Coliseum in a reunion of sorts. The A’s have multiple former players on the Nationals and vice versa. Also, May sees the A’s playing their second longest streak of games without a day of at 13 straight.

June is arguably the toughest month for the A’s as it stands currently. With a 10 game home stand consisting of series against the New York Yankees, Rangers, and Boston Red Sox this will be one of the toughest stretches for the A’s in 2014 and could potentially change the course of the rest of the season.

July will be a relatively easy and fun month for the A’s as they have the most days off of any month (6 including the All Star break) and games against the rival San Francisco Giants.

August competes with June as the toughest month on the schedule for the A’s. With tough series against the Kansas City Royals, Tampa Bay Rays, Atlanta Braves, and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim August will again be a month that will likely decide the A’s fate. Another tough part of the month is a 17 game stretch without a day off.

September will start easy for the A’s then finish rough. The last 13 games of the A’s regular season schedule are against the Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies, and Angels. The final series of the season will be of the four game varieties on the road in Texas.

The A’s 2014 schedule certainly has some highlights and lowlights. One thing that can be said about both is that it will be exciting. The A’s are set to compete for the AL West crown again. The rest of the West has been revamped however and even the Houston Astros aren’t as big of a pushover as they were last season. It will be tough, but it definitely will be exciting.
