River Cats Report: Nick Buss’ Streak, Kyle Blanks’ Rehab

Sacramento finished up their four game series against Las Vegas, losing three of the games, only producing one hit in the final game of the set. The team then headed to Reno looking for a pick-me-up series.

That’s exactly what they got: taking three of five from Reno on their own turf. After dropping the first game, the team looked to Drew Pomeranz for a strong performance and that’s what the Pom Pom gave them, going 5 2/3 allowing four hits and one run while sitting down seven due to strikeouts. Pomeranz earned the W in the 4-2 victory The Cats would then take the next two games as well before being demolished in the finale.

First basemen Kyle Blanks joined the Cats in their third game against Reno and went 1 for 2 with a run and two walks, making a rehab appearance for an injured calf. Blanks has made two more appearances for Sac, going 2 for 3 with a HR and a walk and then going 1 for 2 with an RBI against Colorado.

Hitting Performance of the Week: Shane Peterson‘s 2 for 4 performance in a 15-11 win over Reno. Peterson had two RBI and three runs in the game.

The three game streak for Blanks is nice as he attempts to re-join the A’s after missing significant time, but an even better streak is currently going on with outfielder Nick Buss. A 19-game hit streak is what Buss currently has going on. A scorching bat and balls that are finding holes are a solid combination for Buss. He’s batting .350 during the streak and is leading the Sacramento charge to the postseason.

Pitching Performance of the Week: Matt Buschmann with 6 2/3 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 Ks and a W over Reno.

Additionally, the River Cats added pitcher Angel Castro, who was acquired from the Cardinals.
