While some of you may be asking, “What about Evan Scribner?” I don’t think he gets the call this season. With the addition of Drew Pomeranz, the Athletics gain a starter, or a second long-relief candidate. The arm that is probably the most tired right now is that of Jesse Chavez. Giving him a little help would be all the bullpen needs.
The rest of the ‘pen is comprised of veterans who don’t necessarily need the breather.
This will mark the first time in recent memory that we can expect to NOT see Daric Barton as a part of September baseball in Oakland. Barton is no longer on the A’s 40-man roster, so it would take a lot of effort to get him into the green and gold. Some will rejoice, some will mark it is an end of an era.
This year’s September call-ups offer a chance for the Athletics to finally get healthy for the stretch run.
