No More ‘2 Legit 2 Quit’ When The Oakland Athletics Are Winning

The Oakland Athletics have been playing MC hammers’ New Jack Swing song, ‘2 Legit 2 Quit’ in the 8th inning during the past few seasons. The song has been a hit with A’s fans as it gets them pumped up while dancing and using hand signs to emulate ‘2 Legit 2 Quit’. The song is in accordance to the Athletics stating they will not give up the game and they will never quit. This song is played at every home game and does not matter if the A’s are winning or losing.

MC Hammer, whose real name is Stanley Burrell, has been apart of the Oakland Athletics since he was a young kid in ’71. Owner Charlie Finely hired him and he started as a batboy while working his way up to executive vice president at one point. Hammer is a part of A’s history, which is why it makes sense that they play his song during home games. It is always good to acknowledge and embrace the past, but the A’s need to stop playing ‘2 Legit 2 Quit’ during every home game — especially the games they are winning.

Even during the rare times when the Athletics are winning this season, the song ‘2 Legit 2 Quit’ is blasting out of the speakers during the 8th inning. If the A’s are winning, why are they playing the song? Now, they are just playing the song just to play the song. It would make more sense when the A’s are losing during the game to play ‘2 Legit 2 Quit’ to pump up the small crowd of fans and A’s players to say ‘we will come back and win this game because we wont quit.’

Imagine hearing this song every day. That is what A’s players have to hear every home game for 81 games during the season. It is a good song to hear every once in awhile, but to hear it on a daily basis would get on anyone’s nerves. Instead, the A’s can play a different song in accordance to the situation of winning or losing the game while keeping the tradition of playing MC Hammer. When the Oakland Athletics are winning, they can play MC Hammer’s ‘Turn this Mutha Out’ or ‘Gaining Momentum’. When the A’s are losing, the A’s can continue to play ‘2 Legit 2 Quit’. A’s fans can still throw up ‘2 Legit 2 Quit’ hand signs while watching the A’s lose until their arms fall off.
