A case could have definitely been made for Vogt, but ultimately it should go to Josh Reddick. Despite voicing his controversial opinions regarding some of the team’s trades and acquisitions on social media this year, the front office and coaches see Reddick as a leader in the clubhouse. That being said, Billy Beane and current GM David Forst have expressed their desire to sign Reddick to a long term contract.

Additionally, Reddick was able to stay healthy for the entire season. Since he did not incur any injuries, his offensive production greatly improved from the past two seasons. He lead the team in RBI and home runs with 77 and 20 respectively. Reddick was also able to maintain a .272 batting average throughout the entire season.

It goes without saying that Reddick’s defense was on point. Reddick was awarded a Gold Glove in 2012 and has continued to maintain his quality defensive skills. He only committed five errors this entire season and had 257 putouts out of 268 total chances.

Overall, Reddick truly is the heart of the Oakland Athletics. Like Sogard, Reddick has survived various rebuilds and is highly valuable to the team. Reddick is only 28 years old, and the Oakland Athletics definitely want to lock him down for the foreseeable future. Look for Reddick to be signed to a more long term contract in the near future.
