Oakland Athletics Roundup: Eric Chavez to Angels; Sean Manaea Struggles; Prospect Rangel Ravelo

Oakland Athletics Roundup: Monday, November 2

Eric Chavez has long been a fan-favorite in Oakland. Despite some struggles as a fill-in broadcaster last season, the former Oakland Athletics infielder has maintained his popularity among A’s fans. But that might all change in 2016, because the Los Angeles Angels have hired the perennial All-Star as a special assistant.

Chavez has always been regarded as a player who would be an asset to any organization, and it’s a surprise that the A’s didn’t try to snag him this winter, given that they’ve made several changes to their coaching staff already. The Angels, however, are lucky to pick up the former third baseman.

Chavez is expected to help in a variety of ways, including scouting and on-field coaching. He will be present at Spring Training, and he’ll help with the minor league organization. With his experience and knowledge, he should be a valuable piece of the Angels’ from office, and that’s hardly a good thing for the division-rival Oakland A’s.
