The Oakland A’s have provided an update on the fan hit by a foul ball during Thursday’s game.

One of the more frightening moments at any game is when a foul ball is hit hard into the stands. Fans do not always have a chance to react to those line drives, resulting in potentially serious injury. Such was the case on Thursday when an unfortunate fan took a foul ball off the face, barely reacting at all.

Fortunately, that fan escaped with barely a scratch and will be back in their seat tonight, sporting a bandage and happily holding their new souvenir.

It is also good to see that there is a new friend sitting right there. Head injuries are tricky things, and symptoms can manifest hours later. Fortunately, this one had the wherewithal to bring a helmet to the park just in case another foul ball comes through.

One does have to wonder why a second helmet was not procured. With a trunk that size, one would have to imagine that another helmet could have fit, possibly sparing their friend of another ball to the head. And any possible long term effects, or having to go through concussion protocol once again.

It also goes to show the toughness of the fans at the park. They barely flinched after taking that foul ball to the head, simply staying in their seat and enjoying the action. That took toughness and a devotion to the A’s, willing to be there and root the team on no matter what injury may have befallen them.

Fortunately, that fan is okay and is back in their seat to cheer on the Oakland A’s on Friday. Maybe that toughness can be an inspiration.
