The Oakland A’s may have their backs to the wall, but at least Khris Davis has been on fire in the playoffs.

The 2020 season was a disaster for Khris Davis. After his horrendous ending to 2019, the hope was that he would find his form once again in the shortened season. Instead, Davis struggled to the point where he only played just 11 games in September despite the A’s brutal schedule to end the season.

He did show some promise in that time. Davis started to look like himself again, with eight hits, including three doubles and a homer, in his 32 plate appearances. He drew four walks and struck out only seven times, showing hope that he was about to return to form.

The A’s were certainly hoping that would be the case as well. Davis was viewed as potentially a key part of the lineup, someone that they were looking to get back on track over the final weeks of the season. He showed signs in his limited playing time, but still needed to perform when he was being counted on.

Thus far, he has continued that run of success. Davis had just eight plate appearances in the first round, but did hit a home run. His hot bat has continued into the ALDS, as he has recorded four hits in his seven plate appearances, belting two homers.

With the A’s needing to win their next three games in order to advance to the ALCS, they need all the positivity they can find. They need to have anything that can give them hope to hold onto, any type of spark that can help lead them into the next round.

At this point, that may be Davis. The A’s had been let down by their bullpen and defense in Game One. Sean Manaea just could not keep the Astros in the yard in Game Two. If the A’s are going to advance, they will need to outslug Houston. That is where Davis comes in.

Next. Murphy's quietly solid rookie year. dark

Khris Davis has been swinging a hot bat in the postseason. The Oakland A’s need him to continue that hot streak in order to have a chance to advance.
