The Oakland A’s may finally be on the home stretch when it comes to their new ballpark.
After years of negotiations, delays, and looking at different sites in different cities, approval may be around the corner. The A’s are hopeful that the Oakland City Council will vote on their proposal to construct a new ballpark at Howard Terminal, a project that has been moving haltingly forward for nearly 15 years.
Oakland A’s may finally see finish line for new ballpark
The A’s ballpark situation has been a thorn in the side of the team and Major League Baseball for years. Ownership has said that they need the new ballpark in order to keep their own players and increase payroll. Major League Baseball obviously wants as many newer ballparks as possible to enhance revenue streams.

There is no question something needed to be done regarding the A’s ballpark situation. Although the A’s have been a part of the Colesium since their move to Oakland, their current home is outdated and in need of extensive renovation and repair. Although the A’s have been looking to purchase the land that the stadium sits on, renovating the Colesium is a last resort.
However, that will be the A’s home for at least a couple more years. Even if the City Council approves the plan for the new ballpark this year, construction will not begin until 2022. The previously hoped for debut of 2023 simply is not going to happen.
But there is light at the end of the tunnel. The A’s are finally getting some movement towards a new stadium as the Howard Terminal Project may finally see the light of day. The team has done their part – now it is up to that final stamp of approval.
The Oakland A’s have been trying to get a new ballpark for over 15 years. They may finally be in the home stretch to make this a reality.
