Jed Lowrie has been one of the biggest surprises in baseball thus far. His career was essentially left for dead after his disastrous stint with the Mets when he had just eight plate appearances over nine games in two years. When the A’s signed him to a minor league deal, they were hoping to catch lightning in a bottle.

The A’s have done just that. Lowrie is healthy once again and has become the solution at second base. Even more impressively, he is hitting as though he never missed any time, a key factor in Oakland’s six game winning streak.

Jed Lowrie has impressive six game streak of his own

As it turns out, the A’s are not the only ones with a six game streak. Lowrie continued to swing the bat well on Friday night, continuing his modest seven game hitting streak. However, he has exactly two hits in each of his last six games, an impressive run of his own.

Lowrie has notched 12 hits in his last 26 at bats over that span, with two doubles and two homers. He has been a key run producer in that time, driving in ten runs while scoring seven times. Bob Melvin has begun using Lowrie in the second and third spots in the lineup, giving him ample opportunity to continue to swing his hot bat.

To this point, he has rewarded that confidence. His slow start is far in the rearview mirror at this point, as he is one of the hottest hitters in the game right now. It is not a coincidence that the A’s began to win when Lowrie started to show life with the bat once more as he proved to be the missing piece of the puzzle.

In time, everything comes to an end. That will be the case with Lowrie’s impressive run as well. Eventually, his hitting streak will be snapped and he will come back down to earth. However, considering where he was even two months ago, we may as well enjoy this run as long as we can.
