Attendance was one of the biggest questions for teams heading into the 2021 season. While some franchises were playing in front of a maximum capacity crowd from Opening Day, most teams were not so fortunate. The Oakland A’s were in the latter category, a designation that certainly hindered their finances this past offseason.

But better days are ahead. Beginning on June 29, the A’s will be able to have full capacity crowds for the remainder of the season.

Oakland A’s back to full capacity by end of June

While the A’s are going back to full capacity, the team is hoping to have some safeguards for the ongoing pandemic. Although they cannot make such requests mandatory, they are asking that fans either be fully vaccinated, test negative for COVID-19, and/or wear face coverings while at the game.

This news comes at a perfect time. The A’s will have various holes to fill at the trade deadline, and being able to have a full stadium will improve their financial security as that date approaches. If the stadium is full, it may be possible for the A’s to look to add some bigger pieces to make a playoff push.

Likewise, this is a perfect opportunity for the fans. A vote on whether or not to approve the A’s hoped for stadium at Howard Terminal will be taking place on July 20. By packing the Coliseum and showing support for both the project and the A’s, the fans can make their voices heard by the Oakland City Council.

This is also a chance for the fans to send a message to ownership. While their stated preference is to remain in Oakland, those reported treks to Las Vegas and potentially Portland do not sit well. It is a chance to let ownership know exactly what the fans think about those dalliances.
