Sergio Romo will live on forever in baseball history. The Oakland A’s reliever became a viral sensation when he dropped his pants during an inspection for foreign substances, prompting a great deal of amusement as he found a perfect way to express his displeasure with these checks. It is a moment that will live on for a long time.
It is also a moment that has turned out to be fairly lucrative for Romo. He received a care package from Saxx Underwear after the incident, including 365 pairs of underwear.
Sergio Romo may have endorsement deal after viral moment
That care package was not all that Romo has received. Saxx Underwear also offered to pay any fines that MLB levies against the A’s reliever, although any possible discipline has not been determined. At least Romo will not have to worry about that money coming out of pocket.

Frankly, it is a surprise that it took this long for some underwear company to make such a decision. It is brilliant marketing – pay whatever fine the pitcher receives while receiving far more publicity than those few thousands of dollars would ever generate in a marketing campaign. If anything, some company should have done this much sooner.
Likewise, Saxx now has made inroads amongst baseball fans. Any fan that had not heard of the company before has now, especially if they happen to be annoyed with these random checks and the ridiculousness of deciding to enforce a specific rule in the middle of the season.
For Romo, this is a great way to draw some attention to his career. He has been a solid pitcher over the years, posting a lifetime 3.04 ERA and a 1.037 WHiP in 669.2 innings entering Friday. The 2013 All Star has notched 134 career saves and has typically been a solid option in the bullpen regardless of his role.
