Oakland A’s reliever Andrew Chafin is well on his way to becoming a fan favorite. Between his old school facial hair, offbeat personality, and professed love of green, Chafin has found a way to quickly work his way into the hearts of A’s fans. Now, he has an offer for them.

Chafin is looking for a boat to live on while he is a part of the organization and reached out via Twitter to the fan base. Whoever gets him the boat he is looking for will get free tickets and a case of beer.

Chafin made his A’s debut on Thursday, picking up the final two outs of their 10-4 victory over the Padres. He allowed a hit and threw a wild pitch while striking out a batter as he preserved the victory.

He may well be the piece that the A’s needed in the bullpen. Prior to coming to Oakland, the ground ball specialist had posted a stellar 2.06 ERA and a 0.839 WHiP in his 39.1 innings, striking out 37 batters with 12 walks. Even more importantly, he allowed only one homer as he has made it almost impossible to get the ball in the air against him.

In the end, results matter. While Chafin has gotten off on the right foot with the fanbase, his stature as a fan favorite can change in a hurry if he begins to struggle. Personality, a willingness to engage, and being a relatively goofy guy who looks like everyone’s uncle can only go so far. The results have to be there as well.

Thus far, everything is going right for Chafin. His debut was solid, and he has gotten on the right side of the fan base. Considering that there is a mutual option for 2022, it is possible he sticks around, especially if he and the fans continue to get along.
