It has been a rough week for Oakland A’s pitchers. Chris Bassitt was struck in the face with a line drive, resulting in multiple fractures and stitches in his face. He will need to undergo surgery to repair those facial fractures, and will be on the Injured List for some time.

While Andrew Chafin did not have nearly the same experience, he also had a rough time this week. He somehow lost a tooth during the game on Wednesday.

Andrew Chafin gets in touch with his inner hockey player

With that smile, Chafin looks more like a hockey player than a major league pitcher. It is interesting to note that he used the hashtag #notthefirsttime in regards to his tooth falling out. This is apparently something that has happened before, which just makes this all the more bizarre.

Losing that tooth did not seem to affect Chafin much on the mound on Wednesday. While he allowed two hits in his inning of work, he did not allow a run while recording a strikeout.  It may not have been the easy inning anyone was hoping for, but he was able to get the job done and give the A’s a chance in the ninth inning.

Although he was a somewhat underrated acquisition, Chafin has been another win for the A’s front office. He has allowed just six hits and two walks in his 10.1 innings since being brought to Oakland, striking out ten batters. It did not take long for Chafin to earn the trust of the coaching staff, finding himself in high leverage roles.

He had already been endearing himself to A’s fans. Chafin had mentioned that he was looking for a boat to live on, offering tickets and a case of beer to whoever found a viable option. He has stated that he liked the A’s shade of green, and if he keeps pitching this way, maybe he can stay around. However, Chafin should probably make sure that his dental insurance is part of that deal.
