Mark Canha is one of the more interesting free agents in the game. His ability to play anywhere in the outfield, in addition to his solid all around game and ability to get on base, make him an attractive target for any team in need of an outfielder. He may end up receiving a contract that would be considered surprising to those who have not had the luxury of watching him perform day in and day out.

While Canha is not going to return to the Oakland A’s, he may not be traveling far for his next team. According to reports, he is getting a great deal of attention from teams on the west coast.

Mark Canha attracting attention early

This report matches up with expectations from early in the offseason. The Mariners and Giants were considered to be amongst the teams that would be pursuing Canha’s services as he would be a perfect fit for what either franchise is looking for. While that report did not mention any teams specifically, it would not be a surprise if the Mariners and Giants were part of that group.

Canha had his typically solid season in 2021. He produced a .231/.358/.387 batting line in his 625 plate appearances, hitting 17 homers and 22 doubles with 12 steals. His on base skills continued to shine through as he drew 77 walks and was hit by 27 pitches over the course of the season.

It does remain to be seen as to how long of a contract he will receive. He will turn 33 years old before the start of the 2022 season which could limit his future earnings. However, it would not be a surprise if he received a three or four year deal this time through free agency.
