A rebuilding process can be an exciting time for a franchise. The top prospects in the organization get the chance to establish themselves at the major league level and the fans get a sense of the future. Such has been the case with the Oakland A’s over the years as well, even through their cyclical rebuilding processes.
That is not the case this time. They have two players in the top 100 prospects according to MLB.com – catchers Shea Langeliers and Tyler Soderstrom. Neither player is going to be in the majors this year, with Langeliers likely making his debut in 2023.
Oakland A’s have become depressingly boring
The top prospects that are most likely to make their debuts are not exactly exciting players. Cristian Pache and Nick Allen are best known for their excellent defense and could be solid major league regulars. However, neither prospect is likely to develop into a superstar caliber player.
Maybe that player could be A.J. Puk. He certainly had the chance to be, but arm issues have derailed his career to this point. Daulton Jefferies and Zach Logue are likely middle of the rotation options at best. Kevin Smith appears to be best suited as a utility player.
Even the players that are likely to be left with the team do not generate a buzz. Tony Kemp is a positive in the community but does not excite anyone. Absolutely no one outside of their families is going to go to the ballpark to see Elvis Andrus and Stephen Piscotty.
It is one thing to be a bad team. Bad teams can still be entertaining and fun to watch. But it is another thing to be bad and boring. That is where the A’s are headed, especially as they are likely to dump more players in the coming days.

The Oakland A’s are going to be awful in 2022. To make matters worse, they are going to be awfully boring as well.
