Sean Murphy may have the most famous glutes of anyone this side of a Kardashian. The Oakland A’s catcher went viral after he was hit in the bottom by a breaking ball that did not break nearly enough, causing his rear to jiggle in a way that was truly hypnotic. It did not take long before memes and photoshops commemorated the moment.

It is something that Murphy has come to enjoy. On Tuesday, he made the point that he could have had a four homer game and nothing would have generated the same attention he received for being struck by that pitch. And he is perfectly fine with his newfound notoriety.

Sean Murphy getting deserved attention

With Murphy, it is fair to come for his backside and stay for his performance. As the Oakland A’s starting catcher, he is destined to exist in relative obscurity. However, that may soon change due to his impressive bottom.

Murphy does deserve more attention. He has been one of the better defensive catchers in the game, winning the AL Gold Glove award in 2021. His strong arm behind the plate and quickness have drawn plenty of raves around the game.

It is just a matter of time before the bat catches up. There is no questioning his power potential, and Murphy has consistently hit the ball hard. The problem is that those balls have a tendency to find the defense, making it so that Murphy does not generate the type of impact with the bat that he should.

Hopefully, that will catch up. Hopefully, Murphy will take the steps needed offensively to emerge as a key piece of the A’s next core. Those eyes may stay on the A’s catcher as he goes about his business, instead of being there because of his bottom.

Sean Murphy is drawing plenty of attention for his bottom. If he develops as hoped, maybe the Oakland A’s catcher will keep those eyes on him.
