Frankie Montas the biggest name to be moved at trade deadline?
Frankie Montas is all but a certainty to be dealt away by the Oakland A’s provided that he is healthy. But could he be the headliner of the trade deadline?
At least one person seems to think that will be the case. According to Robert Murray of FanSided.com, the deadline may be fairly quiet, with Montas being the biggest name to change teams by the end of the day on August 2.
Frankie Montas could headline trade deadline
It is certainly a possibility that is the case. Willson Contreras and Josh Bell may well be the other relatively big names that are a virtual certainty to be traded. Other players may have more name recognition, such as Zack Greinke and Nelson Cruz, but at this stage in their careers, are not as likely to have a major impact on a new organization.
Montas would certainly make an impact if healthy. He has posted a solid 3.26 ERA and a 1.086 WHiP in his 96.2 innings, striking out 100 batters with 24 walks. Prior to his shoulder inflammation issues, he had proven to be a solid arm who would take the ball every fifth day while providing approximately six innings an outing.
That track record will certainly generate interest. And that interest will only increase if he misses just one start and returns at full health. The A’s could end up getting an impressive haul for his services should that be the case.
His return on the trade market could only improve if Murray is correct. Should other arms such as Luis Castillo be off the market, Montas will be the top option available. Maybe, just maybe, he ends up being the best player to move after all.
There is a chance that Frankie Montas will be the biggest name to move at the trade deadline. If that is the case, the Oakland A’s could capitalize.
