Oakland A’s promote Tyler Soderstrom to Double-A
The Oakland A’s had planned on being methodical with Tyler Soderstrom, moving him through the ranks slowly. So much for those plans.
Soderstrom has forced the issue and the A’s have noticed. According to Martin Gallegos of MLB.com, the A’s prospect has been promoted to Double-A Midland.
Oakland A’s moving Tyler Soderstrom up the ladder
Soderstrom has put together a solid showing at Lansing after a slow start to the season. He has a .260/.324/.513 batting line over his 371 plate appearances, hitting 20 homers and 19 doubles while seeing action at first base and behind the plate. The fact that Soderstrom had produced those numbers at just 20 years old make them all the more impressive.
But those numbers do not tell the full story. Soderstrom forced his way to Midland with his recent performance as he posted a .320/.391/.693 batting line with seven homers and five doubles in July. His bat has heated up along with the weather as he found his comfort level at High-A.
This promotion shows the confidence that the A’s have in Soderstrom. He will be one of the younger players in Double-A, being challenged at a level that is considered a true proving ground for prospects. It is the first level where failure can be a major setback and prospects can lose that luster.
Soderstrom also has nothing left to prove in A-ball. He is ready for that challenge, to move up the ladder and see if he can be the prospect that he seems to be. Soderstrom will have a test for a few weeks of the season before he likely returns to Double-A for the start of the 2023 campaign to truly establish himself at Midland.
Tyler Soderstrom is on the move. The Oakland A’s are promoting one of their top prospects to Double-A Midland after an excellent July.
