Tyler Cyr faced three batters in his time in the majors with the Phillies. That may be enough for him to get a ring.
Three players that have spent time with the Oakland A’s organization are involved in the 2022 World Series – Seth Martinez with the Astros and Yairo Munoz and Jeurys Familia with the Phillies. Then there is Cyr, who made his major league debut with the Phillies this year before being designated for assignment and claimed by the A’s.
Tyler Cyr could get World Series ring after all
Cyr had been a 10th round selection by the Giants in the 2015 MLB Draft. He spent six years in their system before being granted minor league free agency and signing in Philadelphia. He finally made his major league debut on August 21, allowing a home run and a walk while recording one out for the Phillies. He was placed on waivers a day later, his time in Philadelphia having come to an end.
Being released could have been the best thing to happen to Cyr’s career. He appears to have found a home in the A’s bullpen as he performed well down the stretch. He became one of manager Mark Kotsay’s go-to arms as he posted a 2.08 ERA and a 1.077 WHiP over his 13 innings, striking out 16 batters with five walks. It is possible that Cyr can become a key part of the A’s bullpen going forward, one of the few areas that the front office may not need to worry about.
That time with Philadelphia may have another positive as well. The Phillies are four wins away from a World Series title, their third in franchise history. If they do manage to upset the Astros and bring home a title, Cyr could end up with a ring after facing just three batters in a Phillies uniform.
Tyler Cyr spent just a couple of days in a Philadelphia Phillies uniform this year. Those few days could lead to a World Series ring.
