Jace Peterson is going to get plenty of opportunities in the Oakland A’s lineup. He just may not be at the same position all too often.
According to Jessica Kleinschmidt, manager Mark Kotsay and Peterson have already discussed how he will be utilized in Oakland. Those plans involve Peterson playing “pretty much everywhere” as the A’s look to take advantage of his versatility.
Oakland A’s have new super utility option with Jace Peterson
Such a role makes sense for Peterson. While he was the Brewers’ primary third baseman last year, he has significant experience at second and both outfield corners. Peterson has also appeared at first and short over his time in the majors and could get a look at those positions this season as well.
It makes perfect sense that the A’s are going to get Peterson in the lineup any way they possibly can. The A’s struggled in every facet of the game offensively, particularly when it came to getting people on base. Peterson, and his ‘On Base Jace’ nickname, should help those issues.
His ability to slot almost anywhere on the diamond will help. The A’s will be able to make certain that he is in the lineup almost daily, providing a solid option to give their regulars a day off. Peterson can also hold down third base until the A’s either determine that Zack Gelof is ready for a major league role or the likes of Kevin Smith can show that they are ready to be a viable major league option. He is going to get plenty of chances to make an impact upon the A’s chances this year.
Jace Peterson is going to be a constant in the Oakland A’s lineup. He just may not be at the same position on a nightly basis.
