Brett Harris did not attract much attention when he was drafted by the Oakland A’s. That may be about to change.

MLB.com selected a prospect from each organization that they feel is on the cusp of a breakout season. Harris was their selection for the A’s.

Oakland A’s could have star in making with Brett Harris

It is understandable that Harris would have slipped under the radar heading into the 2022 season. He was a seventh round draft choice in the 2021 MLB Draft and scuffled in his first taste of professional ball. While he needed just five plate appearances to advance beyond the Arizona Complex League, he had a disappointing .222/.323/.370 batting line in his 94 plate appearances in Lansing.

Harris made certain those struggles were a thing of the past last season. He had just 123 plate appearances in Lansing before being promoted to Double-A where his hot hitting continued. Harris posted a .290/.375/.475 batting line with 17 homers and 22 doubles in his 483 plate appearances between the two levels, drawing 50 walks while striking out just 83 times.

He does have some intriguing tools. His ability to make contact and draw a walk was going to get attention, especially with his raw power. Harris began to tap into that power last season, attacking mistakes as he took a step forward in his development.

Given his impressive work ethic and drive, it would not be a surprise if that prediction of a breakout season came true. Depending on his production and how the A’s third basemen fare in the majors, it may be possible that Harris can make his major league debut next season if he continues swinging a hot bat.

Next. Thomas worth hanging on to. dark

Brett Harris is being considered a possible breakout candidate for 2023. If he continues to develop, the Oakland A’s could have a surprising star in their system.
