A's can't sweep Royals, fall 4-0 to Kansas City

The Oakland Athletics had the chance of a lifetime on Wednesday, facing the Kansas City Royals for the third time in as many days and looking to sweep them... only to fall way short of that by losing 4-0 at the Oakland Coliseum.

In front of more than 5,000 souls attending the game and watching the A's crumble live on location, Oakland enjoyed a nothingburger from his players on Wednesday as the whole mob was limited to two hits against the Royals' pitchers.

Kansas City wasn't much better, getting just five hits throughout the day, but they were sublime at touching bases and crossing home plates as they turned those five hits into four runs, all of them scored in the first five innings and in a span of just three frames in the heart of the game.

All of the members of the A's ballclub, featuring in the picture shown above, could have stepped up to the plate once and still not put a run on the scoreboard.

Adrian Martinez finally started a game decked on A's threads, and the Mexican hurler had a relatively short-but-good outing in which he completed 2.1 innings allowing three hits but limiting the Royals to just one run He stroke out three hitters while walking just one before giving way to a trio of relievers.

The A's won't rest until the final day of August when they'll be putting an end to their upcoming road trip starting on Thursday against the lowly Chicago White Sox. Lowly by MLB standards, not Oakland's, that is.

Four games in Chi-Town will precede three more away from the East Bay, the latter to be played in Seattle against the Mariners on the first three days of next week.

Oakland might not have a baseball team by then, mind you, as A's owner John Fisher confirmed in an interview with the Las Vegas Review-Journal that the franchise has already submitted their application for the relocation of the A's to Las Vegas for the 2028 season.
