Oakland A's probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Pittsburgh Pirates, April 30
The Oakland Athletics started their homestand off on the right foot by grabbing a victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates last night. They've won four of their last five and are now 13-17 on the year. No games will be easy for this team but their next 5 games come against the Pirates and the Marlins, which should give them a decent chance to grab two more series victories and keep pushing toward a .500 record.
Probable starting pitchers
- Lefty Alex Wood will get the start for the Athletics tonight. He's had a rough start to the year, going 1-2 with a 6.59 ERA. His .444 wOBA allowed is in the bottom 3% of the league, he's been one of the worst pitchers in baseball in terms of limiting hard contact, and he's currently on pace for the highest walk rate of his career. Suffice to say that things are not well, and he needs to get this figured out asap before people start calling for his release.
- 2023 All-Star Mitch Keller gets the nod for the Pirates. Keller hasn't been much better, going 2-2 with a 5.14 ERA in 35 innings. Like Wood, Keller has allowed far too much hard contact. His hard-hit rate is 48.1%, 12 percentage points higher than the league average and well above his career mark of 39.5%. If the A's can jump on Keller early, they'll have a good chance to put another mark in the win column and inch closer to .500.
