The Oakland A's have now taken three straight series victories, bringing their record to 7-9 on the year and leaving them tied for 3rd place in the AL West. They'll face some tough competition in their next three-game set, as the St. Louis Cardinals come to town.

Athletics' third baseman JD Davis left last night's game with a groin strain and underwent an MRI this afternoon. Manager Mark Kotsay said that Davis should be okay, but the team did bring Esteury Ruiz to Oakland this afternoon just in case Davis were to need a stint on the IL. We'll provide updates on that story as it develops.

The Cardinals also come into the series at 7-9 and are working through some bad injury luck, but many outlets had them competing for the NL Central division title in 2024. As they work their way back to full health, we can expect them to pick up the pace and give that division a run for its money this summer.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Ross Stripling will take the mound for the Athletics this evening. He's 0-3 to start the year with a 5.50 ERA and a 14:5 strikeout to walk ratio. He's gotten a bit unlucky on the mound but has allowed 12 runs in his first 18 innings. The A's need him to get it together, as he was brought in this winter to provide stability to a lackluster rotation.
  • Former Oakland A's starter Sonny Gray will get the nod for the Cardinals tonight. Gray began the year on the IL but made his first appearance against the Phillies last Tuesday. He went 5 scoreless innings with 5 strikeouts and 0 walks. He's coming off one of the best seasons of his career, having thrown 184 innings with a 2.79 ERA for the Twins and finishing second in the AL Cy Young voting.
