The Athletics dropped Monday night's game after an 8th inning home run from shortstop Corey Seager put the Rangers ahead for good. Alex Wood had his best start of the year, going 6 shutout innings and allowing just 2 hits and a walk while striking out 3.

The offense was once again an issue for the A's, who managed just 2 runs on 7 hits, three of which came from Abraham Toro. JD Davis got hit in the head by a throw while scoring on a Darell Hernaiz single but stayed in the game and appears to be no worse for the wear.

The A's are still 3rd in the AL West but fell to 17-19 on the year, dropping further away from that elusive winning record. They'll look to get back in the win column against a tough Rangers lineup this afternoon.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Ross Stripling gets the start for the Athletics this afternoon. He's 1-5 on the year with a 4.24 ERA but is coming off a strong start against the Pirates last time out. He's posted a 3.37 FIP and is slowly getting his ERA back to a respectable number despite the poor W-L record.
  • Jose Urena gets the nod for the Rangers this afternoon. Urena is 0-2 with a 4.35 ERA in 10 bullpen appearances. This will be his first start of the year. If ever there was a time for the Athletics offense to put some runs on the board early, today would be it. Over the past five years, Urena has posted a 5.50 ERA with a 5.21 FIP with a dismal 10.3 hits per 9.
