When do Oakland Athletics pitchers and catchers report to spring training?
A look at when pitchers and catchers report for the Oakland Athletics, along with other important spring training dates
This has been a difficult offseason to be an Athletics fan. The ups and downs of the relocation process have been overwhelming and because the A's aren't doing anything in free agency, it's consumed the conversation for months.
Despite all that, the Athletics will still play baseball in 2024. As frustrated as we are, it's still exciting to think about baseball coming back. The A's might not have a rosy outlook for next season but there are still some younger players and prospects that we're excited to watch and for me personally, life is a bit better with a baseball game on in the background.
When do pitchers and catchers report to spring training?
Athletics' pitchers and catchers will report to Mesa on February 14th, a Wednesday. As noted on CBS.com, the team will hold its first full-squad workout the following Monday, the 19th.
We'll still have to deal with the ownership group mucking around in the background but seeing the trucks on the move and getting those first few photos and stories from the spring training site will be a welcome shift from the depressing nature of the relocation talks.
What about the games?
The first spring training game is scheduled for Saturday, February 24th against the Rockies. It'll be an afternoon start, scheduled for 12:05pm. The team will play on 10 consecutive days to open the spring, with the first day off coming on March 5th.
The A's are slated to play their two-game series in Las Vegas against the Brewers on March 8th and 9th. They're scheduled to be split-squad games, because why not.
The A's play their Spring Breakout game on March 15th, against the Giants. The Spring Breakout series is a new gambit from MLB designed for teams to showcase their top 20-25 prospects against other squads. We wrote about our roster predictions for the game last month here at WCB.
The team will wrap up the spring training schedule on March 26th before heading to Oakland to get the regular season underway with a four-game series against the Guardians starting on the 28th.
With all the noise surrounding the club, the real baseball will be a much needed break. We can't wait.
